SEC Reporter

AI disclosure

SEC Reporter uses artificial intelligence to help us publish. We want to be plain about where it helps and where people are in charge.

Think of how a skyscraper gets built. The architect doesn't pour the concrete or set the steel; the architect designs the building, sets the standards, and decides what is and isn't good enough. That is our role. AI does much of the construction work, and our editors guide the design and answer for the result.

Where we use AI

Game recaps and previews. When an SEC game ends, and in the days before one, AI writes a first draft from the official statistics feed: the box score for recaps, season statistics for previews. Counts such as records and streaks are worked out by our own software, not the AI. An editor reads every draft against those statistics and nothing is published until the editor approves it.

What fans and bloggers are saying. Every morning, AI reads public discussion of SEC teams on Reddit communities and team blogs, keeps only family-friendly conversation about the games and teams, and summarizes it in our own words with a link to the original. These summaries publish automatically, and our editors remove anything that shouldn't be there. The opinions belong to the people who wrote them, not SEC Reporter.

Where we don't

Scores, standings and schedules come straight from the statistics feed and are not written by AI. We don't use AI to invent quotes, sources or facts, and we don't use it to make images of real people.

If we get something wrong

AI makes mistakes, and so do people. When we find an error, we correct it.
