Oklahoma beat Mississippi State 23-15 at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday, and the number that told the story was the Bulldogs' third-down line: 1-for-11. The Sooners' offense piled up 467 total yards while Mississippi State managed 352, and the home team did not score until the third quarter.

John Mateer drove the Oklahoma attack, completing 22 of 29 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, an average of 9.8 yards per attempt. Isaiah Sategna III was his primary target, catching eight passes for 164 yards and a score. Tory Blaylock led the ground game with 71 yards on 12 carries as the Sooners ran for 184 yards on 41 attempts.

Oklahoma built its lead in stages. The Sooners led 3-0 after the first quarter and 10-0 at halftime, then added 10 more in the third to go up 20-7. Mississippi State answered with seven in the third and eight in the fourth, but Oklahoma closed it out with a field goal in the final period.

The Bulldogs' best work came on the ground, where Fluff Bothwell carried 17 times for 111 yards, part of a 166-yard rushing day that averaged 5.0 yards per carry. Parker Puckett completed 17 of 24 passes for 158 yards with one touchdown and one interception, and Sanfrisco Magee caught three passes for 65 yards and the score. Fatt Forrest made 10 tackles and Jaray Bledsoe recorded a sack.

Mississippi State's chances were undercut by turnovers and penalties. The Bulldogs lost two turnovers, one fumble and one interception, to Oklahoma's one, and were flagged eight times for 90 yards. The Sooners were penalized nine times for 75 yards. Adepoju Adebawore had 1.5 sacks for Oklahoma and Owen Heinecke finished with 10 tackles.

Both teams are now 4-3 overall after the conference matchup. Oklahoma returns to action with a win in hand on the road, while Mississippi State is left to sort out an offense that moved the ball between the twenties but converted just one third down all afternoon.
